Remember, remember the fifth of November

Gunpowder treason and plot

We see no reason, why gunpowder and treason

Should ever be forgot


On 5th November an effigy of Guy Fawkes is burnt on bonfires up and down the country to remember his part in the Gunpowder Plot of 1605.  The ring leader, Robert Catesby was killed while trying to flee.

Please remember the fireworks code –

·        Store fireworks in a closed box and take them out one at a time

·        Follow the instructions carefully.  Use a torch to read them, never a naked flame

·        Keep a bucket of water nearby

·        Make sure everyone stands well back and pets are kept indoors

·        Light fireworks at arm’s length using a the taper provided

·        Never go back to a lit firework – even if it hasn’t gone off, it could still explode

·        Do not drink alcohol if responsible for setting off fireworks

·        Only buy fireworks which carry the CE Mark

·        Be very careful with sparklers

Also - Make sure pets are safe and inside

And - Remember to wrap up warmly
